Voter ID Card related FAQs
Voter ID Card is one of the essential identity proofs for the Indian citizens. A voter id card can be taken by the citizens who are 18 years old or above. This card is not only important for voting but also otherwise like supposedly you want to open a bank account, you will be asked by the bank people to provide an identity proof and you can give a copy of your voter id.
Here are some of the frequently asked questions related to death of a family person or changing the name in the voter ID card after marriage.
I have recently got married. How can I get my wife enrolled at my address?
This will depend on the following:-
(a) If your wife is a voter for the first time then she will have to fill in Form-6 for enrollment as a new voter.
(b) In case your wife is already a voter but not in the same Assembly Constituency (such as enrolled in some other Assembly Constituency of Delhi, or anywhere else in India), then she will need to fill in Form-6 for change of residence.
(c) If she is a voter in the same Assembly Constituency as you but needs only to change her address then, in such case she needs to fill in Form-8A for change of residence within the same Assembly Constituency.
(d) As proof of residence she can submit a copy of her marriage certificate or copy of the marriage invitation card.
My father has expired, what do I need to do to remove his name from Voters List?
His name and the names of all people who have expired have to be removed / deleted from the Electoral Roll. For this you will have to fill Form 7. You can give it personally or by post. The only document that you are required need to attach is a Death Certificate. No other document is required.
What documents do I need to submit to show proof of age?
There are many documents that you can submit as a proof of age. You can choose any one of the following:
a) Birth certificate issued by a Municipal Authority or district office of the Registrar of Births & Deaths or Baptism certificate; or
b) Birth certificate from the school (Govt./Recognized) last attended by the applicant or any other recognized educational institution; or
c) If a person is class 10 or more pass, he should give a copy of the mark sheet of class 10 or 12, if it contains date of birth as a proof of date of birth.
d) Mark sheet of class 8 if it contains date of birth; or
e) Mark sheet of class 5 if it contains date of birth; or
f) A certificate of his age given by a sarpanch of the concerned Gram Panchayat or by a member of the concerned Municipal Corporation / Municipal Committee, the person is not educated till class 10 and both the parents are not alive.
g) Any other Government document showing age e.g. Passport.
If a person does not have any proof (for Age, photo, address, Identity), how can he/she become a Voter?
The person can become a voter, provided he is an ordinary resident of the given address and above the age of 18 years on the qualifying date and is not disqualified to be a voter. As per ECI instructions, age proof is required in case of applicants between the age group of 18-21 years. Applicant is required to either submit a photograph affixed on the application Form or get him photographed directly at Voter Center. In case the applicant is not having any proof of residence /identity, the verifying officer i.e BLO may take witnesses from neighbourhood about the factum of residence and identity of the applicant.
My wife does not have any proof, how can she be a voter?
If the husband or any other member of the family has previously been enrolled and issued EPIC, he /she may give an undertaking on the photocopy of EPIC about the identity and her residence.

Sir my name is J. Arulraj residing in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. I have my old voter id card and the voter id number is TN/36/219/0090250. I had applied for change of address and it was changed and I got my booth slip for the recent elections 2014 with change of address. Now how do I get the printed latest voter id? Same problem for my wife also. Her name is A.Selvi Jaya and her voter id No. is TN/36/219/0090790. Kindly help us to get our printed latest voter id cards at the earliest, for the act of your kindness I will ever remain grateful to you Sir.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I had filled online voter id registration form no.6 but i had not received any voter card can i vote by showing them form no.6 in the polling booth.
