Form No. 08 is a very important form for the whole electoral process. This form helps the voter to correct the mistakes made while filling Election Card Forms i.e the mistakes in electoral details of the voter.
Any kind of mistake in your electoral details is the last thing you would want if your intention is to cast a vote and make your opinion count for the betterment of your constituency or more importantly, your nation. Imagine you went to the polling booth and BLO(Booth Level Officer) did not allow you to exercise your franchise because of the discrepancy in the credentials you provided for the voters’ list did not match with the credentials provided in the identity card you presented.
Such a situation would surely be a let down for the voter and the patriot inside you. Hence such blunders(mistakes in the Voter ID Card details) must be rectified as soon as they are brought to notice, by filling the Form No. 08.
These mistakes can be categorized into minor and major ones. Minor mistakes may include minor spelling mistakes while writing the name or mistakes made while stating the address.
Ways of correcting minor mistakes through Election Card Form in electoral list:
Earlier, for the correction of the above mentioned minor mistakes made while applying for the Election Card, the voters had to fill the Form No. 08, which meant repeating the whole process of filling forms and starting from scratch.
But not anymore, the Election Commission of India(ECI), again living up to its reputation of consistently taking steps to make the whole electoral process easier and more convenient, has launched a provision which allows the voter to correct minor mistakes in the personal details of his/her EPIC or the Electoral list without filling any election card form.
Examples of minor mistakes in the personal details which can be correction with election card form:
The ECI has scraped the need to fill the Form No. 08 for minor corrections like: –
- Correction in names.
- Correction in addresses.
- Mismatched Photograph on EPIC.
So if these mistakes have been found in your electoral list, they can simply be corrected by a new method which does not require you to fill any election card forms.
What is the new method to make these minor corrections using Election Card Form?
Now the new process formulated by the ECI makes it possible to make minor corrections in electoral details simply by sending a text message(SMS). Yes, no need to fill forms or stand in queues. To make the above mentioned corrections in your election card details you just have to send a text, the layout for which is as follows: –
- Correction in names or addresses:- SMS ‘CORR’ followed by ‘Assembly segment number’ and ‘a small description about the complaint(correction). Send it to 9211728082.
- Mismatched photograph: SMS ‘PHOTO’ followed by ‘Assembly segment number’ and ‘a small description’. Send it to 9211728082.
This SMS of yours will reach the ERO(Electoral registration officer) who will have to show an immediate reaction on the correction complaint. The voter will then receive a complaint number.
The text will find its place in the database of the CEO(chief electoral officer) and the district election officer. The staff members will look into the complaint and ensure that required steps are taken to ensure redressal. The interaction between the ERO and CEO would be constrained by time to make sure that the correction complaint by the voter is taken care of, as soon as possible. Therefore the voter would get his personal details corrected in the election card/voters’ list within a short period of time, so that there are no barriers for him to exercise his franchise to vote.

in wikipedia, search for your loksabha constituency name and its page will give assembly constituency list and number under the loksabha constituency.
